SketchUp
Graphics Pipeline 2.0

What matters more than how fast, smoothly, and reliably SketchUp renders your models?
In this release, we’ve made major improvements to our graphics pipeline, allowing for performance improvements everywhere you see a .SKP. Now, SketchUp, 3D Warehouse, LayOut, my.SketchUp, and Trimble Connect all render models using the same under-the-hood algorithms—all tuned for buttery 3D orbiting.

SketchUp
See (through) that?

Along with our graphics pipeline overhaul, we’ve made big improvements to transparency, which should now render faster and at higher quality too. SketchUp is also now much better at displaying multiple transparencies to provide a more realistic sense of depth across several see-through faces. And for good measure, we’ve added the ability to fine-tune the opacity level in X-ray mode.

SketchUp
Click and… release!

We’re always sharpening our ‘heuristics’, the ins and outs that make SketchUp quick and precise.

High DPI Modeling
We’ve tuned snapping and inferencing for high definition monitors (like Apple’s Retina Display). Edge weights have also been smart-scaled. You can back away from your screen now…

Smart Offset
Our new Offset tool avoids overlapping and self-intersecting geometry. Clean offsets, every time you hit ‘F’ (even in LayOut!)

Perpendicular Face Inferencing
Have you mastered parallel inferencing? We’ve added a ‘Perpendicular to Face’ inference. Hover a face; SketchUp will helpfully snap to its perpendicular.

Righteous Rectangles
Our Rectangle tools now utilize the arrow-key axis-locking (just like Circle and Polygon tools). Psst… find square or Golden Section proportions; hold shift to lock that in too!

LayOut
Introducing… Tables

Great documents often feature important information, so we built Tables; a great way to manage spreadsheets in LayOut. Create a Table from scratch, or import a .CSV or Excel file. Tables behave just like other spreadsheets: edit text, style cells, modify columns and rows… you get the gist. LayOut references your original spreadsheet, so updating every Table in your document is as simple as… click!

LayOut
High Fidelity .DWG

Many people use linework from SketchUp in other CAD applications. We’ve re-written LayOut’s .DWG/.DXF exporter to make their lives a lot easier.

One .DWG
Previously, a ten page LayOut file would export as ten separate .DWGs. Now you’ll get just one .DWG with ten separate tabs for each page.

Native Entities
In the old days, LayOut entities like dimensions, clipping masks, and labels would explode into raw geometry upon export. Now, they’ll import smartly into AutoCAD and behave just as expected.

Smart Scaling
LayOut exports are now smart enough to self-scale for paper size or model space. Drawing entities like labels and polygons scale to paper size. Model linework scales to model space. Voilà!

Color by Layer
We’ve added an oft-requested ‘Color-by-Layer’ option to CAD exports, so all entities on a given layer may export as one color. By default, black linework exports so that it renders as black on a white background and white on a black background. That’s like candy for CAD fiends.

SketchUp
3D for every-cone

In SketchUp 2017, we’re introducing customization for the colors that display SketchUp’s axes and inferencing. We hope people with any degree of color blindness will tweak these important color schemes to make SketchUp and LayOut work just right.

SketchUp
Persistent IDs

Now, when you make a change to your SketchUp model, any LayOut dimensions associated with the model update to reflect your edit. This is possible thanks to a new feature across the SketchUp platform called Persistent IDs. These are identifiers for geometry that help SketchUp (and its extensions) manipulate individual entities, like a specific edge or face. Basically, every sliver of your model just got smarter.

SketchUp
Extension Manager

A new utility, Extension Manager is a one-look view of your SketchUp extensions. From here, it’s easy to toggle on and off custom tools (or uninstall them entirely). Extension Manager also displays an extension’s Digital Signature, the indication it meets our standard for quality and security.

SketchUp is useful from the earliest stages of design to the end. Programming, diagramming, design development, detailing, documentation, RFIs – wherever and whenever you need drawings, you need SketchUp Pro.

Produce scaled, accurate drawings
SketchUp isn’t just for 3D models. You can now draw plans, elevations. details, title blocks and a lot more with LayOut. When your model changes, so does your document. Simple.

Generate presentation documents
With LayOut, you’re equipped for page design, drafting, vector illustration and slide presentations: everything you need to explain your work.

Create compelling walkthroughs
Use SketchUp Pro to turn your models into animated walkthroughs and flyovers that explain every detail.

Get good, fast
Whether you’re just stepping into the world of 3D design or have years of experience, SketchUp is hands-down one of the most intuitive and easy-to-learn 3D drawing tool around.

Think by drawing in 3D
SketchUp was designed to behave like an extension of your hand, so you can draw whatever you want, however you want.

Create accurate, highly-detailed models
SketchUp is accurate to a thousandth of an inch, so you can design, specify, and plan with as little or as much detail as you need.
